Seed Science: A Homeschool Event
Grades K - 5
Friday, March 12
10:30am - 11:15am
We'll learn about how seeds work and how they are dispersed. See full description for supplies list. Registration is required for this private Zoom event, and closes 48 hours before the event.
We'll read books about seeds and how they are dispersed. We'll plant bean seeds in a sandwich bag with a paper towel and dissect bean seeds. Please have about 6 larger beans on hand per child (kidney, lima, pinto) - either actual seeds or dry cooking beans - many cooking beans will grow a plant, especially if they are organic. Non-organic dry beans are irradiated and may or may not sprout. If you don't have any bean seeds or dry beans, contact Librarian Cathy at cbakken@spokanelibrary.org. We'll also dissect beans, which will require you to soak three of the beans for 12-24 hours ahead of time. A magnifying glass may also be helpful.
Register to participate and you will receive an email with a link and instructions on how to participate before the event. Only one registration per family/computer is necessary.
Technology requirements: You will need a device or computer with an internet connection and the Chrome browser, microphone, and speakers to participate.
