Meet local artist Tracy Poindexter-Canton and see her artwork.
This program, part of the Library’s celebration of Black History Month, introduces you to local artist Tracy Poindexter-Canton. Learn more about Tracy's mixed media artwork and Black artists who have inspired and influenced her work.
Pieces from her 30-Day Quarantine Art Challenge -- in which she created a mixed media collage a day for 30 days -- were featured in a solo exhibition at the Liberty Building in downtown Spokane last summer. Images of all 30 collages will be displayed during this virtual exhibition in addition to images of earlier works and her 2019 "To Shalimar" series inspired by Toni Morrison novels. The event will feature a special appearance from local poet, Stephen Pitters. Tracy and Stephen will discuss their artistic collaboration in which Tracy created a mixed media piece in response to one of Stephen's poems. Learn about Tracy’s technique, where she draws inspiration, and her art practice. She may even have suggestions for artists to invigorate their practice. Time for questions and discussion will be available after Tracy’s presentation.
Register to participate and you will receive an email with a link with instructions on how to participate the evening before the event.
This discussion is held on Zoom. Technology requirements: You will need a device or computer with an internet connection and the Chrome browser, microphone and speakers to participate.
