Join legendary picture book author/illustrator Jan Brett as she launches her book signing tour for her new picture book, Alice in a Winter Wonderland! This event is hosted by Spokane Public Library and Auntie's Bookstore. While the library typically opens at 12pm on Sundays, we will have a special early opening at 10am for those interested in attending this event.
While general admission to Jan Brett's book presentation is free, entrance to the signing line requires the purchase of Alice in a Winter Wonderland from Auntie's Bookstore. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult in the signing line. Jan will sign at least one book per group in line and more if possible. For any extra books that are not able to be signed by Jan we have signed bookplates that are die-cut and beautifully designed with full-color Jan Brett artwork. Purchase copies of Alice in a Winter Wonderland from Auntie's to be picked up at the event and receive a ticket # for the signing line (see FAQs for additional ways to purchase). Ticket #'s are given out based on order books are picked up at the event, not when book orders were placed. The first 100 families in the signing line will receive a free signed Jan Brett poster!
Since space is limited (300 seats), please register ahead of time via the RSVP link to the right so we know how many people to expect.
One hour before the event Jan's tour bus will arrive and it is wrapped in eye-catching artwork from Alice in a Winter Wonderland. Please feel free to take photos with the bus! We will also be joined by Hedgie, Jan's favorite friend from The Mitten and The Hat! Hedgie will also be happy to take photos with attendees.
About Alice in a Winter Wonderland
When Alice spots a white rabbit checking his pocket watch before hippity-hopping down a crevasse in an Alaskan glacier, she knows she must follow him. And so she pops down the rabbit hole, into a world of absurd personalities, topsy-turvy action, and laugh-out-loud silliness. Characters like the Cheshire Cat, Duchess, King, and Queen come to life as vibrant animals native to Alaska, certain to appeal to readers of all ages.
To celebrate the release of Alice in a Winter Wonderland, Jan Brett will once again embark on a national bus tour, visiting 23 cities in just 17 days - and Spokane is one of them! Jan Brett is thrilled to continue her beloved tradition of traveling across the country visiting bookstores, libraries, and schools in a show-stopping bus, this time branded with characters from Alice in a Winter Wonderland.
About Jan Brett
Jan Brett lives in a seacoast town in Massachusetts close to where she grew up. During the summer, her family moves to a home in the Berkshire Hills. She is a New York Times #1 bestselling author/illustrator, one of America’s most popular, with over 44 million books in print, and has brought to life lovable characters and imaginary backdrops for children for more than 40 years. Her illustrations are adored for their classic beauty and vibrant, life-like images of animals, landscapes, and flourishes from cultures around the world.
As a child, Jan Brett decided to be an illustrator and spent many hours reading and drawing. She says, “I remember the special quiet of rainy days, when I felt that I could enter the pages of my beautiful picture books. Now I try to recreate that feeling of believing that the imaginary place I’m drawing really exists. The detail in my work helps to convince me, and I hope others as well, that such places might be real.”
While Jan is most known for her children’s books, she is also an award-winning breeder of ornamental fowl (fancy chickens!). Some of her best book ideas come from other interests including extensive travel and exploration of the natural world, marathon training, and while listening to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where her husband is a musician.
